Friends i hope you are familiar with my last post simplicity:what we need regarding windows 7.one month earlier i have installed Ubuntu 11.10 alongside with windows 7 and i am here with a post of installing jdk on this latest version of Ubuntu which was released on 13th October.
Nowadays Java is one of the most popular object oriented programming language and its popularity has undergone an exponential growth(due to it’s suitability in distributed environment. one can use Java to develop cool web applicatios with a lot of complex features as well as in developing sophisticated desktop applicatins, and it’s platform independeny “write once and run every where.”
The latest version of Ubuntu (Ubuntu 11.10 beta1) has become one of the most popular Linux distro for desktop environment.that’s why Ubuntu is now considered as a great platform for developing Java applications.
If you are interested in only running Java application then you have not to install jdk (because it has lot of components which is not required for executing Java program) instead you just need to install jre(Java runtime environment) on ubuntu 11.10 (which includes Java virtual machine for executing java bytecode class).
Installing JDK on ubuntu 11.10
There are many jdk available these days. one of the most populer open source jdk is openJDK. openJDK is well compatible with Linux and it is available in official respiratory. so you can install it in a click.
- open a terminal(alt+ctrl+t) and execute thr following commands.
sudo apt-get install openJDK-7-jdk
or you can install sunJDK.
since the sunJDK is not included with the official respiratory, so you will need to add a PPa for that;
sudo add-apt-respiratory ppa:ferramroberto/Java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-Java6-jdk sun-Java6-plugin.
now enjoy your java programming..
